I recently took a trip to Spokane to visit a close friend of mine. While it was short I definitely plan on going back soon. Eastern Washington has so much to offer. From beautiful, old architecture, to some of the most amazing outdoor views. The local restaurants there had some awesome gluten free food with very friendly, competent service.

My local favorites from this trip were Cochinito, Boots Bakery and Lounge, Tomato Street, and Sweet Peaks Ice Cream. Cochinitos’ is a Mexican style restaurant. Almost their entire menu can be modified to be gluten free. It’s pretty much a gluten free persons dream! The staff here was absolutely incredible, they were so helpful and so sweet. While the chips are made in the same fryer of things that contain gluten the server stated that if we had time they could make the chips in a pan with separate oil so they would be safe to eat. I didn’t try them but I did try their tacos and they were amazing! I had the ‘heritage duroc pork cheek carnitas’, ‘lamb merguez’, ’20 hr carne asada’, and the ‘beef short rub barrio’. I highly suggest getting an assortment of tacos so you can pick your favorites!
Boots Bakery and Lounge is a dedicated gluten free facility. They offer vegan and gluten free options here, so you literally can’t go wrong with anything you pick. Their pumpkin waffles with chai butter are an absolute must! But if you’re looking for a quick on the go treat they also have cupcakes, brownies, and cookies (I suggest getting their chocolate chip cookies).

One thing you’ll learn about me early on is that I am a huge fan of Italian food! I was able to get my Italian food fix at Tomato Street while visiting Spokane. There menu has a variety of gluten free dishes. I chose to get ‘Aunt Rosa’s Pasta’, it was made with rice pasta, mushrooms, white onions, roasted chicken, fresh basil, tomatoes, feta cheese, garlic and olive oil and onion butter, and Alfredo sauce. Need I say it was so yummy!
For a dessert, I would suggest Sweet Peaks Ice Cream. This cute little ice cream shop is located in Downtown. Their website clearly labels which ice creams are gluten free so it is easy to see what you can and cannot get. I myself am a chocolate lover, so I personally got a chocolate sundae, but there is plenty to choose from so you can’t go wrong.
